I think it will come as no surprise that positive mental health is certainly a buzzword at present, with a number of national and local initiatives aiming to support, highlight and promote all forms of activities that endorse positive mental health. The Guernsey Mind team talk campaign is one campaign we have been contributing content to for a while now and last month we continued to add to the list of existing video content that we have produced. We caught up with Mark Smith, the President of the Guernsey Velo Club, at one of the club’s 5 mile time trial events held on the west coast.

Whilst filming at the sunset location his passion and enthusiasm towards positive mental health was palpable and it is clear that he wants to support those with lesser positive mental health than himself. From supporting various members within the club he is also a keen participator in  Men’s Shed and MUG since they were first set up. Cycling is a sport that our Director, Olly Tracey, particularly enjoys, as he can regularly be seen on two wheels riding up and down the west coast at the weekends when not filming Guernsey Football Club.

The Team Talk campaign aims to highlight the local sports that have mental health ambassadors who support individuals who maybe facing a struggle or two. Cycling joins an ever growing list of other sports that aim to support their members with their mental health. We believe that it won’t be too long before more than 50% of our island’s sports have signed up, making our island one of the most inclusive and supportive islands to live in the world. I’m just glad I call Guernsey home!
