When we were called by a UK media company who were looking for a cameraman to document the arrival, transportation and installation of a roof extension we jumped at the opportunity to be a part of this project. HT Media were tasked with documenting the construction and transportation of a roof extension made by the Yorkshire based company Moduloft. It took shape in their factory before being transported on the motorway and loaded onto a freight ship destined for the Channel Islands.

The work began early one Friday morning where the first escort driver left the St. Peter Port docks with the first roof unit following closely on the lorry behind. We were tasked with documenting its route through the Guernsey lanes as it had to navigate the low hanging trees and telephone lines. Upon arrival on site we utilised our new Manfrotto slider for the first time as we documented the installation as it pieced together like a jigsaw. The team from Moduloft visited from the UK and had been on the island for a few weeks already as they had been completing similar smaller installations. However this one was chosen to be featured in their documentary as the transformation of the existing building was very striking.

It was remarkable, the units had travelled hundreds of miles and once arriving on site they fitted together like a giant jigsaw. Granted it required a crane to fit each of the pieces together, but it worked seamlessly and the staff on site just had to bolt each of them to the foundations already in place. They managed the task in a single day, which was a considerable achievement given all the units were on the dock in St. Peter Port harbour at 6am that morning. But by 6pm that day, all of the units were secured to the existing structure already in place, on the site in St. Andrews. We were fascinated by the length of the process taken to get the units to Guernsey. We were happy to play our part in a much bigger project, which has been one of our largest single day jobs to date.
