We were grateful to be invited along to provide photographic and video coverage of the inaugural games between the Isle of Man Walking Football Team & Guernsey Walking Football Team.

The sun shone at King George V Memorial Playing Fields on Thursday 20th August for the visit from players, coaches and officials who took the short trip from up north. We provided match coverage of the Over 60s’ game between two teams. In addition we interviewed a number of players from the visiting team with a view to producing a showcase film selling Guernsey as a ‘must visit’ destination.

We were also blessed with an opening message from Stuart Langworthy, the England Over 60s Walking Football manager, who was extremely envious of our position here in Guernsey that we were able to host a competition of this magnitude without any social distancing being required. Guernsey was recognised as a great holiday destination, similar to that of the Isle of Man who were also enjoying the freedoms of no social distancing and relaxed travel via the air bridge to the Bailiwick. One thing that was very evident was the clear early direction from both governments to overcome the COVID-19 pandemic that is currently sweeping the globe.

The IOM Club had been playing walking football for 9 years now and also get free promotion from word of mouth from existing players. Maintaining fitness and regular social interaction were recognised as great reasons to play the game by the wide range of players who participate regularly. If you are interested in playing the sport locally reach out to them by visiting either of their social media pages on Facebook or Twitter.
