Guernsey punches well above its weight when it comes to talent, not only on the sporting field but within the arts as well. The latest project we have been working on included supporting the launch of a new fundraising arm of the Guernsey Arts Commission with a promotional video.

We visited Government House last month for the launch of Arts Foundation Guernsey, and we were overwhelmed by the amount of talent on show. We were tasked with capturing as much of the day as possible on camera, and that included hot footing it between performance marquees, stages and an indoor performance ballroom. Everything you could imagine was on show from solo pianists and singers to young people breakdancing to the latest chart hits.

We brought along our rain cover for our FS5 as we knew the weather forecast wasn’t too favourable, but that didn’t deter the public from attending or dampen our energy and enthusiasm to capture as much that was on show as possible. Gone are the days when any shot using zoom had to be recorded whilst on a tripod, as modern advancements in lens technology enabled us to obtain super steady shots using our our 18-200mm lens with active stabilisation. In layman’s terms we were able to keep some distance from the performances, as we didn’t want to make them feel under the spotlight, but using the active zoom stabilisation were still able to get some great shots of the meticulous precision each of the acts evidenced whilst performing. Whether that be playing their acoustic guitar, completing a pirouette or putting the finishing touches to their pencil drawing.

A voice-over recorded in post, with the masterminds behind the new fundraising charity, enabled a comprehensive story to be told in the relatively short 6 minute video. We were privileged to be asked to cover their inaugural fundraising event at such a prestigious venue. We hope our video serves as a record of the talent, aptitude and skill possessed by so many islanders and that investors celebrate them with open arms.
