The Specsavers Youth Games is always an event in the calendar we look forward to. The biennial event taking place here in Guernsey offers children in years 5 & 6 the chance to try a new sport & represent a team on a day of competition.
The Sports Commission, organisers of the event which has now been running for 20 years, continue to push the boundaries of the event, which this year celebrates its 10th anniversary. This year was no different in that they increased the number of sports available to 23 and offered children in Guernsey as well as Alderney the chance to participate. Five new sports were added to the roster this year which included Paddle Tennis, Stand Up Paddleboarding, Lawn Bowls, Boxing & Gymnastics. We always enjoy witnessing the smiles on the children’s faces as they compete on games day, which was the main feature of our filming for this year’s video.
The video we produce is typically premiered a week or two after the competition day which typically takes place in May, but the video is of most use in two years’ time when the games are promoted for children to sign up to in 2025. This year we kept it simple, as we had 19 sports to tackle on competition day so we had to travel light. We opted for a single camera (Sony A7III) in our kit bag with two lenses, a G-master 24-70mm and G-master 100-400mm which offered us all we needed to capture everything you see on the video below.
