Saturday 22nd July
We were privileged to be invited to provide video coverage of the official launch of Arts Foundation Guernsey at Government House earlier today. The Foundation was created to support the Guernsey Arts Commission funding regime, as well as raising the level of cultural awareness in the island, whilst creating a more joined up approach to art and culture here in Guernsey. They invited us along to provide a record of the event, to help raise the profile of their new charity whilst keeping a record for posterity. The event was hosted at Government House, as Lady Corder is their patron, and they were also extremely grateful to his Excellency who provided them with the opportunity of staging the event in such a prestigious setting.
Unfortunately, the weather wasn’t kind to us this morning, but that didn’t stop the public from turning out in their hundreds to support the many acts performing in the many venues situated around Government House grounds. These included ‘Up and Coming and Contemporary Music’ which took place on the main stage on the front lawn. ‘Visual Arts’ took place in a marquee also on the front lawn which was joined by the ‘Dance and Performance’ area which featured on the opposite side of the drive. ‘Classical and Easy Listening’ was also offered in the Ballroom, but unfortunately the Verandah was unusable due to adverse weather conditions.
But it wasn’t all doom and gloom, as the weather did clear up just after lunchtime, and the blue skies did make an appearance just as the bands took to the stage. The buoyant atmosphere continued till 4.30pm when the event came to a close just after the choir from Guernsey Mind made a surprise appearance. Our work on their promotional video has begun but you can view our album of photographs shot on the day in our embedded Facebook post. #GetSharing
